You should know that not everybody that breathes in asbestos is going to have health issues. In fact there are some that have been exposed to asbestos in their home or at the workplace for many years and they never have health problems from the asbestos.
Typically when you breathe asbestos into your lungs the mineral will become lodged in your lung tissue and your body will cover it with an enzyme. This is because your body cannot flush it out and it will continue to get coated over and over again for many years. This causes you to lose lung capacity and makes it harder to breath as you get older.
If you breathe in asbestos you will most likely not show any symptoms for many years. This means that by the time it is found in your lungs you may already be suffering from the loss of some of your lung capacity. If your asbestos exposure was just once or over a very short period of time, then you may not experience any health issues because of it. However if you were exposed to asbestos in larger amounts or very frequently, then your chances of experiencing health issues due to asbestos are greatly increased.
Those that are concerned about their asbestos exposure should see a doctor and have a lung x-ray done. This is the only way to confirm that asbestos has been inhaled into your lungs. Once the x-ray has been developed your doctor will know whether or not you have asbestos in your lungs and whether your body is coating it with an enzyme or not.
The doctor should also be able to tell you what the possible risks are and how much asbestos you have in your lungs. They can usually tell you want to expect and how to deal with the exposure you have experienced in your life to asbestos.
